Learn to tell an agent product from an AI-flavoured one, then map what you already bring against what the job actually asks.
You have shipped product, or run delivery, or owned a roadmap people argued about. You have probably also sat in a meeting where someone said let us add an agent with great confidence and no definition. What you cannot do yet is tell from the outside which of these jobs is real and which is a chatbot with a budget.
What you do
Go and read the market properly. Collect fifteen live postings with agent or agentic in the title or the responsibilities, from the labs, from enterprises, and from the vendors selling to them. Paste the responsibilities into one document and sort them into two piles: the ones where the product acts on someone's behalf, and the ones where the product answers questions while a human still does everything. The second pile is an ordinary product job with AI in the copy, and it is most of the market. Learning that difference is the first thing this road teaches, because it decides which interviews are worth your evenings. Then find five people doing the real version. Write down what they say the hard part is, in their words. It is rarely the model. It is usually deciding what the thing is allowed to do, and who answers when it does something else. Finally put your own last three years against that list and mark each line have it, adjacent, or do not have it. A PM who has written an approval flow, or owned a process where a mistake cost real money, is closer to this than they think.

If you get stuck
The common failure is treating every posting with AI in it as the same job, applying to forty, and hearing nothing back. They are not the same job and they are not the same interview. The way out is the sort: two piles, and one sentence explaining the split. The second failure is deciding you have none of it because you have never shipped a model. You are not being hired to ship a model. You are being hired to decide what one is allowed to do.
