IndiaAI Mission backs 20 homegrown models and subsidised compute

The IndiaAI Mission will support 20 indigenous AI models, twelve large language models and eight small ones, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology told Parliament. The mission has empanelled 15 compute providers, approved 237 projects and allocated 9.3 million GPU hours. More than 38,000 GPUs are onboarded at a subsidised rate of 65 rupees an hour.

Subsidised compute at that price removes the most common reason an upskiller in India has never trained or fine-tuned anything themselves.
